Pokhara (November 22-November 26, 2011)

Pretty lakeside Pokhara was a welcome sight after 18 days of trekking. With spectacular views of the Annapurna range, a variety of restaurants offering steaks and cold beer, and a hotel room with an oh-so-important hot shower, four days here was just what we needed. Unfortunately, two days in, our Thanksgiving dinner made us both very sick – the sickest we’ve been on this trip – and we spent our final two days resting in bed, never getting to take boats out on the lake or hike up to the Peace Pagoda high above town for what was supposed to be a spectacular view of the city and the mountains behind it. We planned to come back after going to Kathmandu to collect the luggage we’d left there, but after the bumpy eight-hour journey during which our bus actually broke down along the side of the road for an hour, we could never quite talk ourselves into repeating the trip.

  1. Hi there,
Sorry to bother you, just wondering if you have any more information regarding Myanmar visa applications in KL? I saw your comment on another blog recently that stated you got a same day visa? Was there any additional requirement other than those stated on the other blog? Any other tips? Maybe you can reply with a comment on our blog?

Enjoyed reading about your trip, happy travels!
    Cheers!

  2. Hi there,
We had no problems getting our visas. We went on a Tuesday, dropped our passports off, picked them up on Friday (took under a minute), and flew to Myanmar on Sunday. We considered doing the same day service to avoid having to come back to KL on Friday night but because our flight wasn't until Sunday, they preferred us to do the 3-day, which we did. The process was straightforward, everything on the other blog was correct. Though, we did need to write down an address in Myanmar on the visa (we just wrote the name of a guesthouse in Yangon). Also, consider giving yourself extra time when you go to pick up the visa, KL rush hour traffic is insane!

    Best of luck!
    Nora

  3. Thanks for your advice. Yes, we had no trouble, although we had to wait four days as there was a Myanmar holiday in the week we applied. Also, we had to get new photos developed at the embassy as ours were not accepted. But all in all everyone was very nice about it, we didn't have to queue again and it was fairly hassle free. Cheers and enjoy Myanmar!
